Oliver Twist...

In the 1830’s, many orphans or homeless children were seen as easy labour by heartless supervisors and by criminals.
Oliver is born into a life of poverty and misfortune in a workhouse. When Oliver turns nine, Mr Bumble, an administrator, puts Oliver in the main workhouse where he has to pick oakum. He and the rest of the boys are always very hungry. When they ask for more food, the cruel administrators hypocritically offer 5£ to any person wishing to take on a boy as an apprentice.
Later a kind undertaker, Mr Sowerberry, takes Oliver into his service and uses him to mourn at children’s funerals. But his wife is jealous and hates Oliver and makes his life difficult and so does Noah Claypole who likes bullying apprentices. After being beaten several times, Oliver decides to run away.
During his journey to London, Oliver encounters Arful Dodger, a dishonest pickpocket, who gives him a free meal and tells him of a safe place to stay. Oliver innocently falls into the criminal’s hands of Fagin and his gang. Oliver is forced to rob an old gentleman (Mr Brownlow) and has the police arrest him and taken before the magistrate. A sudden witness proves Oliver is innocent and it’s Mr Brownlow who takes Oliver home.
Later, Fagin’s gang catches Oliver and they steal his money and his clothes. Oliver tries to run but is taken back to the hideout. Fagin threatens to kill Oliver if he doesn’t participate in a burglary. Sadly Oliver is shot during the assault but luckily the lady of the house, Miss Rose, feels sorry for him and takes care of him.
Meanwhile a mysterious man, Monk, plans with Fagin to destroy Oliver’s reputation. Both men join forces with Mrs Bumble, but Nancy (a nice girl in Fagin’s gang) hears them and warns Mr Brownlow and Miss Rose.
Later the gang discovers Nancy is helping Oliver and they beat her to death. Sikes runs from the crime scene through the roof tops but accidentally slips and hangs himself. Dodge is caught stealing and is sent to Australia.
The cruel Noah joins Fagin’s gang for protection and takes part in robbing children. But as he is also caught he agrees to be a paid informer to the police. Fagin is arrested and condemned to hanging. Monk reveals his real identity; he is Oliver’s half-brother and is obsessed in destroying him. Oliver gives Monk money. Monk moves to America but falls back to crime and dies in prison. Oliver maintains his pure-heart and continues to live with Miss Rose.
